Practice Focus

Mr. Matathia’s practice concentrates in the areas of land development, approval, environmental impact review, highway access regulation, solid and hazardous waste managemnent, cleanup of contaminated properties, and Superfund liability defense.

Notable Experience

Mr. Matathia joined the firm in __________.  Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Matathia was a Project Coordinator and Environmental Compliance Coordinator with Jason M. Cortell and Associates, Inc., an engineering and consulting group which handled, amother other things, site clean-up and remediations.

Representative projects of Mr. Matathia's include:

  • involvement in multi-party negotiations regarding implementation of an Administrative Consent Order, the investigation and assessment of residual contamination, and the imposition of land use restriction as a method for limiting foreseeable uses scenarios and risk mitigation requirements
  • participating in the hazardous waste impact review, the permitting and response planning process for MDPW in connection with the Central Artery/Tunnel Project
  • developing procedures governing right of way characterization and clearance, the formulation and implementation of remediation plans and projects in compliance with National and Massachusetts Contingency Plans
  • advising the Ashland Board of Health relative to the selection of remedial alternatives, the allocation of federal and state matching funds, the implementation of emergency removal measures and the formation of a Citizens Advisory Committee with respect to the cleanup of the Nyanza Chemical Superfund Site
  • representing GTE Realty in connection with its removal of solid and hazardous waste from a site located adjacent to a surface source of public water supply; and
  • representing property owners in connection with the release of hazardous materials from a former coal tar facility.
