Practice Focus
Real Estate: manage due diligence for significant real estate and corporate transactions including the review of environmental conditions and permitting compliance, and the assessment of potential environmental liability. Provide advice on Brownfields redevelopment, 21E cost recovery actions and environmental insurance. Negotiate retail leases and purchase and sales agreements.
Environmental and Land Use: represent clients before the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection regarding Superfund, 21E, the Clean Water Act, RCRA, EPCRA, the Clean Air Act, the Wetlands Protection Act and the Massachusetts Water Management Act. Provide advice on zoning and permitting, including the Boston Article 80 permitting process and Chapter 91 waterfront issues.

- United States Environmental Protection Agency, Senior Enforcement Counsel
- Provide advice to Fortune 500 companies regarding redevelopment of one of the country’s largest Superfund sites
- Defended an asphalt production company in a Federal Clean Water Act enforcement action
- Obtained and transferred over 500 local, state and federal environmental and land use permits and hazardous waste financial surety approvals for a $300 million corporate acquisition
- Negotiated the sale, closure, and redevelopment of a New Hampshire paper mill site
- Assisted a local developer in obtaining Large Project Review and Planned Development Area approval pursuant to Boston Zoning Code for a $240 million development
- Settlement of several 21E cost recovery actions
