Rackemann Launches New Green Energy and Climate Focused Practice Group

Rackemann, Sawyer & Brewster is pleased to announce that it has launched a new Green Energy, Resilience & Sustainability Practice Group. The practice group will focus on the legal issues surrounding Green Energy and Climate Change. The group will offer a full range of legal, consulting, and advisory services to landowners, developers, businesses, cities, and towns that are planning a green energy or climate focused sustainability project. Among the services the group will provide are: (i) assistance with the permitting, construction, and financing of alternative energy facilities; (ii) the negotiation of solar leases, negotiating agreements for the installation, interconnection, and operation and maintenance of green energy resources and power purchase agreements; (iii) assistance with LEED certification matters; (iv) maximization of tax incentives for green structures and developments; and (v) environmental policy analysis and advocacy.

The group will be composed of several highly experienced attorneys and an engineer who is licensed to practice in Massachusetts and has consulted on numerous environmental projects throughout the Commonwealth. Additionally, several of the group’s members are LEED certified professionals, reflecting their deep knowledge of green energy and sustainability standards. Using their unique expertise, they will be able to guide clients through the entire process of green energy and sustainability projects, from siting and permitting to financing and construction.

The group will be chaired by Lauren Armstrong, a Director in Rackemann, Sawyer & Brewster’s Real Estate Department. Lauren has years of experience in transit-oriented development, land use planning, green-building, sustainability and climate resiliency issues, having worked on projects on behalf of clients such as the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, major residential and retail developers, and start-up companies both locally and around the globe. She was also recently a delegate on a green energy and sustainable building focused trade mission to the city of Hamburg, Germany. She has spent the last year sharing lessons learned from that mission, and was recently commended for her work by the Massachusetts State Senate.  “With the initiatives undertaken by the Mayor of the City of Boston, the Governor of Massachusetts, and the revision of EPA regulations recently announced by the President, the creation of this new practice group is timely.” said Lauren. “All of the group’s members are professionals with high levels of technical and legal knowledge and ability, who have years of experience working on these issues. The creation of this new group will allow us to more effectively take advantage of each other’s unique expertise in the areas of green energy and sustainability. I am very confident that the Green Energy, Resilience & Sustainability Practice Group will be able to provide a high level of service to our clients.”
